The Yarrow Park club introduced a Donate at the Gate system for their match with Gretna on Saturday.

Instead of the usual fiver to get it fans were asked to donate to the local foodbanks.

And supporters from both Selkirk and Gretna responded in their droves.

Selkirk chairman Ross Anderson said: “We are delighted with the response.

“We thought we would maybe fill the boot of the Volvo with items but it looks as though we’ll need to get a van down.

“Everyone who came along brought a bag of food items – hopefully we can do more for the community in future seasons.” It was estimated by the end of Saturday’s Lowland League match that around 600 items had been donated to the club.

And they will all be delivered to the local foodbanks for distribution before Christmas.

Club secretary Sheree Davison added: “We would like to thank everyone who made the effort to support Donate at the Gate.”
