With his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve, it was unanimously agreed the club stalwart was a deserved recipient of the honour.

Club president Jim Gray told the gathering in the Netherdale clubrooms that Adam attended his first Fairydean match in 1956 and had served on the committee since 1968.

He described it as an "incredible devotion" to the club and his father Dod before him before presenting Adam with a framed certificate confirming his life membership.

Jim explained Adam had served the club in every capacity apart from being a player with his linesman footwear developing from trainers to studded boots and eventually wellies!

Gala Fairydean Rovers FC chairman Kevin Temple, who handed over a tankard specially engraved by The Trophy Guy, also paid tribute to Adam's contribution to the club over the decades.

He said: "I am relatively new to the club but I can always rely on Adam to fill me in about the history of the club.

"Even on the day of him being awarded life membership he was still working behind the bar. We are so lucky to have him."

Modest as always Adam thanked everyone for appearing at his surprise life membership presentation.

He said: "We have had our ups and downs over the years but the club is on the up and up. I want to thank the committee for giving me this honour."
