THEY may have claimed a cup double last season but Gala Fairydean Rovers won’t be defending either.

The Netherdale club’s amateur side have pulled out of the forthcoming Border Amateur leagues.

Despite finishing runners-up in Division A and winning both the Borders Cup and the Beveridge Cup, manager Grant Davidson and his assistant Des Sutherland left to take up positions at Coldstream.

After failing to find replacements the committee at Netherdale announced their decision this week.

A spokesman said: “Following a disappointing response for a manager to run the amateurs the club has decided to retain their membership of Border Amateur Football Association with a view to rejoining next year.

“Thanks for all the support over the last two years from everyone who has been involved in this new era of Gala Football.

“We are looking to build on our progress for the following season when we have enough volunteers.”
