OVER 2000 people from across the Scottish Borders attended the Borders Sport and Leisure Cameron Gunn Football Festival on June 3rd. The event is the largest of its kind in Scotland and was open to all primary school age children who play for SBJFA teams. It also included the SBJFA cup finals for 13s, 14s, 15s and 17s.

Organised by Borders Sport and Leisure and the Scottish FA , the tournament was held at the 3G Arena Netherdale and the grass pitches at Netherdale in Galashiels.

The SBJFA presented Wilma Gunn, mother of Cameron Gunn, who died at the age of 19 and whose memory the festival is in honour of, with a cheque for 845 to the Selkirk-based charity Scottish HART (Heart At Risk Testing).

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport and Leisure, the social enterprise, not-for-profit company that runs many of the sports and leisure facilities and programmes in the region said: "It was a fantastic day for everyone - players, parents, grandparents, brothers & sisters and friends - it is truly one of the best events of its kind, a day when members of many communities come together in the name of fun, sport and charity. We look forward to making next year's 10th Anniversary event even better."

Wilma Gunn, mother of Cameron Gunn, said: "This really is a great event; it's hard to see how it could be made any better".
