WE already knew when it comes to football coverage it’s second only to the Border Telegraph.

And the judges of two prestigious awards think exactly the same.

The Gala Fairydean Rovers matchday programme has been judged the best in The Lowland League for 2014/15 by two separate panels.

And the production narrowly missed out being voted the best throughout the entire Scottish non-league football - finishing runner-up ahead of teams such as Clydebank, Auchinleck Talbot and last season’s winners Buckie Thistle. The awards were bestowed on the club by Programme Monthly Magazine and the Soccer Club Programme awards.

Programme Monthly commented: “The quality of programmes at the top end (in the Scottish Non-Leagues) have noticeably improved, whether that be better quality print, glossy paper, or just down to improved content.

“Gala are one of the clubs who took note of where they fell down last year and made noticeable improvements.

“Immaculately designed and SPFL quality, it also provides plenty reading and covers all the basics well. Sometimes programmes get so wrapped up in design and flashiness that they forget about content, Gala have the balance right.” Phil Watkins from the Soccer Club Awards sent the Gala editorial team a certificate and covering letter congratulating them on the award.

He stated: “Your editorial team undertake a mammoth task in arranging, writing up and producing a matchday programme, one that is interesting, informative and that the reader finds enjoyable.” Since Gala Fairydean Rovers entered the Lowland League they have worked closely with several local photographers and freelance reporters.

Last season saw the club finish runners-up in the Lowland League and sixth overall in the Scottish Non Leagues.

Club Secretary Graeme McIver is part of the editorial committee who produce the matchday programme.

Graeme told us: “We are delighted that all of our hard work and efforts have been recognised by these awards.

“The club is committed to producing a high quality publication that we hope people enjoy reading.

“I want to thank Qube GB for their sponsorship of the programme and Karen Galbraith for her high quality design and layout.

“Even when we didn’t win the award last season the programme was still recognised as the best designed in Scotland.

“I also want to thank our other regular contributors John Clayton, Kenny Paterson and Rob Fairburn as well as the likes of Brian Sutherland and Caledonia Sween who have allowed us to use photographs.

“Finally Advanced Signs have been great in producing the programme, sometimes at very short notice and always to a very high quality.”
