Hawick 4
Gala Fairydean Rovers 1
Hawick Royal Albert enjoyed their second Border Derby victory within four days as they ran out deserved winners against a lacklustre Gala Fairydean Rovers at Mansfield Park. Earlier in the week Dean Shank’s side overcame Selkirk with a 4-3 victory and have begun their debut Lowland League season in fine form.
On 32 minutes Gala took the lead after a nice interchange of passes between Alan Nicol and David Bonnar played Stuart Noble in on goal.
Hawick were brighter after the break and deservedly equalised on 53 minutes with a superb strike by Daryl Johnson.
But Scott Main was also red-carded for an off the ball altercation with Johnson.
Before the visitors could adjust to playing with a man short their hosts took the lead when the Gala defence failed to cut out a long ball and the impressive Morris rolled the ball under Wright.
In the 84th minute, Morris once again latched onto a long ball that the Gala defence failed to deal with to make it 3-1.
To cap a miserable day for the Braw Lads man of the match Morris competed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in injury time.
Gala Fairydean Rovers: K Wright, B Miller, S Main, T Hope, D McColm, A Nicol, R Aitchison (Windrum 79), S Noble, S Paliczka (D Simpson 60), D Bonnar. Unused sub: R Clapperton
