Gala Fairydean line up for new season
GALA FAIRYDEAN face two Border derbies to kick off their season.
Fraser Lothian's side entertain Hawick Royal Albert at Netherdale on Saturday, August 14, before Kelso United arrive four days later.
The Dean will also entertain Spartans the following Saturday in the Image Printers Cup.
Boss Lothian is happy with the early home advantage. He said: "You can't ask for anything more than two home games to start your league campaign. Opening games are never easy as there will be a lot of new boys in the teams and they will all be trying to impress.
"It may be six weeks away but we're all looking forward to the new season."
Selkirk have two tricky trips against last season's promoted teams to open their Premier League campaign.
The Yarrow Park side face First Division champions Stirling University on the Saturday before travelling to Victoria Park on the Wednesday to play Vale of Leithen.
Selkirk assistant manager Bryan Templeton believes his expanding squad can cope with the difficult start. He said: "We have eight new players joining us for pre-season training and we are confident of keeping all of last season's squad.
"With the bigger squad I believe we can do a lot better this season. Stirling and the Vale will be difficult but I'd like to think we can take something from both games."
Amongst Selkirk's new recruits who started pre-season training last night were former Berwick Rangers fullback Jason Inglis and former Fairydean duo Des Sutherland and Paul Hossack.
New First Division team Berwick Rangers Reserves face neighbours Eyemouth United in their opening match, while Kelso United entertain Easthouses and Peebles Rovers travel to Leith Athletic.
Relegated Coldstream open with a home tie against Ormiston.
