The BU made sure Steve Forrest’s men didn’t get a sniff of a first round shock as they dominated throughout.

And it was only the fabulous reaction saves of Jamie Newman that prevented an even bigger deficit.

Selkirk manager Forrest told us: “They turned up to play and we didn’t.

“As you would expect from the best junior team they are going to be in your face and wanting the ball – we weren’t sharp enough to prevent that.

“If you could have got a performance that was as far away from the team talk, that was it today. Too many of our players were wandering around hoping it would happen for them.” Bo’ness exposed Selkirk’s defensive weaknesses early on with a series of deep crosses.

And it came as no surprise when they made the breakthrough from a diagonal aerial punt on 10 minutes. Darren Gribben’s knock-down was fired into the net by the prowling Chris Donnelly from just six yards out.

Ross Campbell’s spectacular overhead kick four minutes later was denied by the finger -tips of Newman at full stretch.

There was an element of expectation from the Selkirk support and for a brief ten minute spell it looked as though the game was turning.

Garry O’Connor barged through a couple of challenges and his toe-poke towards goal beat keeper Mark Peat only to find defender William Snowdon on the line to clear.

Julio Tonelle forced Peat into a save and fellow Frenchman Benji Huteau, who was playing his last match for Selkirk, went within inches with a powerful shot from the angle.

But Bo’ness continued to boss the match and only the offside flag prevented a second goal on the half hour.

Gribben rattled the crossbar with a 25-yard strike but Paul Murphy had strayed beyond the last defender in converting the rebound.

The second goal did arrive before half time and it was another deep cross that found Gribben at the back post for a simple header. Newman produced a great save on 52 minutes to stop Murphy’s back post header finding the net.

And despite riding their luck at times, Selkirk almost found a way back into the match as Peat couldn’t hold Phil Addison’s shot but somehow smothered the loose ball at the feet of Daryl Johnston.

Gribben made sure of the victory for the visitors with yet another back post header on 80 minutes.

And the party really kicked in for the vast majority of the 453 crowd when Scott Pitman took full advantage of a defensive mix up to round Newman and roll the ball into the net.
