Gala had to lend the visitors a player to make up their team at Netherdale on Thursday night and the game was played with uncontested scrums.

After containing early Jed pressure in the opening minutes, Gala got quickly into gear and strong running by Rex Jeffrey sent him through the defence for the opening try, converted by Dean Keddie. Minutes later slick handling put Craig Dods in at the corner for an unconverted try.

A great burst through the middle by Kris Mein saw Blair Reavely side stepping expertly “shades of Strictly” over at the posts. Dean Keddie added the extras. Another break by Kris Mein sent Rex Jeffrey in for his second try in the corner for the bonus point.

Jed to their credit attacked whenever they had possession but Gala counter attacked well and good handling gave Rex Jeffrey his hat trick.

Kris Mein burst a couple of tackles just before the interval to put Richard Tod under the bar. Dean Keddie’s conversion made it 36—0 at half-time.

Gala rang the changes for the second half and yet another break by Kris Mein gave Cameron Pate a try converted by Craig Dods.

Ewan Scott, after a quiet start and a long injury break, scored a great try after a 60 metre dash. Kris Mein deservedly got a try after he raced straight through to the posts for a solo try. Ewan Scott converted as he did the next try which he scored himself from a fine break down the middle.

It was all Gala as Jed went down to 14 men through injury and mazy handling gave Cameron Pate his second try, converted by Ewan Scott.

Richard Tod got his second try after great backing up work and again Ewan Scott added the extras.

Craig Dods finished off a good move with an unconverted try in the corner and then got his hat trick with a similar move and Ewan Scott finished the scoring with the conversion.

Kris Mein was this week’s Man-of-the-Match.
