The weather saw this fixture reversed as the Tweedsiders travelled to Ormiston to get their first game of 2015 under way.

Ormiston started with all guns blazing and laid siege to the visitors goal in the first five minutes however the United defence held firm with Elliott Turnbull displaying acrobatics to claw away a shot bound for the top corner from forward Craig Wojtoywtch.

United took the lead with their first attack of the game after 9 minutes as recent signing from Selkirk, Jordan Hopkinson, skipped past two defenders down the right wing before delivering a cross into the box where Andrew Oldham was on hand to rifle a shot into the net from 6 yards.

The visitors again went close minutes later as Hopkinson just shot over following good work by Shane Bonnington.

The home side replied with a shot from the edge of the box but Wojtoywtch’s effort went inches over the bar.

Ormiston eventually got an equaliser on the half hour mark when they were awarded a free kick on the left edge of the box which was floated into the back post, the United defence only clearing to winger Declan Quinn who delicately chipped the ball over Turnbull into the net.

The East Lothian side almost increased their lead a minute later as Quinn picked up the ball down the right wing and thundering a cross which midfielder Lee Cockerell headed against the far post.

United started brightly in the second half and Hopkinson was on target with a right foot shot however it was well held by Ormi keeper Andrew McQueen.

The home side had a good chance on goal in the 55th minute as a corner on the right from Wojtoywtch saw forward David Ross head wide when left unchallenged in the box.

Referee Nikki Smith gave United a free kick at the edge of the box when defender Liam Skinner fouled substitute Chris Falconer. Hopkinson stepped up to blast the ball but McQueen was able to parry the ball away from danger.

The game was won in the 80th minute as man of the match, United defender Ben Herdman, was harshly penalised just outside the box for a tackle. Wojtoywtch curled a left foot shot from the resultant free kick round the wall and nestled in the net to give the home side victory.

Kelso boss Blaikie said: “I was pleased with the boys’ effort and commitment and thought we were unlucky not to come away with anything from the match. If we play like we did today it won’t be long before we pick up points.”
