A string of spectacular saves from the Home Park number one were crucial for the struggling Streamers against Spartans.

Walters said: “We’ve been low on confidence but it’s amazing what a win can do.

“We need to keep this going into next week and you never know – we could get ourselves away from the bottom.” The visitors dominated the majority of the first half with Walters producing great saves to deny David Stewart, Hayden Crane and Kyle Boggie.

But there was little he could do to prevent Stewart volleying a Kyle Hogg cross into the bottom far corner on the half hour.

The closest Coldstream came to troubling Murray Jackson’s goal during the opening 45 minutes was a Craig Heugh volley which went inches past the post.

Walters made another couple of excellent saves at the start of the second half.

And just before the hour his heroics were rewarded with John Crawford equalising.

The club’s top scorer curled a freekick, with precision rather than power, round the wall and beyond Jackson.

Spartans continued to press and were denied a strong penalty shout on 77 minutes when Boggie was pulled down by Walters.

But it was the Streamers who were to snatch a late, and unlikely, winner.

A long freekick was flicked on by Crawford and Luke Strangeways was on hand to fire home from 15 yards.

Manager Steve Gibbard said: “Mark is the best keeper in this league and he showed it again today. He made some amazing saves. We had to battle today but if we are going to stay in this league we’ll have to keep battling.” Coldstream: M Walters, R Graham, P Johnson, M Alan, K Ainslie, K Neill, C Heugh (J Rutherford 53), J Hebdon, J Crawford, J Oliver & L Strangeways.
