GALA Cricket Club were crowned Border League champions for the first time in 13 years following their victory over Kelso at the weekend.

And captain Stephen Halls believes there is much more to come. He first led his team to success in the competition in 1996.

However, with the under 13 side also bowling over the competition in their league, the 40 year-old doesn't think they will have to wait as long for their next silverware.

Halls told the Border Telegraph: "It's been a great performance all year. It was a tough game on Saturday, especially with the bad weather, but everybody played their part and it was a really good team effort.

"We have a good mix of ages in the team, and some really strong young players. It bodes well if we can bring these guys on for the future. The under 13 side also won their age group league this year, so there is some promising talent at Gala."
