THREE former Border Reivers rugby fans from West Cumbria returned back to Netherdale at the weekend.

Bob Marshall, Kendal Bruce and Ron Fisher followed the Reivers for several years, and returned from across the border to the former club's home on Saturday.

But this time their visit had nothing to do with rugby.

Instead, the vintage car enthusiasts had organised a lunch break at the club as part of the 155 mile Rose and Thistle Classic Challenge.

Members of the Cumbria-based Wigton Motor Club and other entrants from across the UK left from Carlisle Airport, and the 60 plus cars arrived at Netherdale at around 12.30pm.

Cars varied from a 1934 MG model PA, 1937 Bentley Derby, 1938 Jaguar SS100, 1966 Jaguar D type plus a wide variety of makes including Austin Healey, Citroen, Renault, Morris, Rolls Royce, Porsche, and of course a plethora of variants of the MG marque.

Members of the Border Car Club came along to greet the visitors, and a number of local people were at the car park to take in the vintage cars and chat to the drivers and owners.
