The Tour of Britain passed through the Borders last year - introducing the sport to a whole new audience.
CYCLISTS across the Borders are gearing up for an event which aims to ensure the future of the sport in the region is on the right path.
A new partnership between Scottish Cycling and Scottish Borders Council (SBC) will be launched at the Border Union Showground in Kelso on Saturday, March 20.
The event brings together riders from across the East of Scotland to celebrate the new partnership, which aims to improve the infrastructure and services offered to cycling clubs in the Borders.
The partnership is initially a two year agreement with the hope of it continuing into the future beyond 2012. A voluntary group representing key stakeholders and local cycling clubs will lead the project to help drive forward the sport in the Borders. They will focus on developing clubs, coaches, volunteers and performance as well as looking to increase opportunities and events - both competitive and non-competitive across the region.
To mark the occasion, a youth race will take place as well as a Regional School of Racing session, which teaches young riders the skills involved in racing. Riders will be present from the East Region with many of the Border clubs represented.
