WITH no Beltane Sports being staged this year officials from Border Athletics have been forced to include an extra Tweedbank meeting in the season's calendar.
But the stand-in event has still attracted bumper fields in both the youths and senior sprints.
A total of 37 athletes - headed by the first three from the New Year Sprint, Dan Paxton (3.5), Greg Turnbull (1.5) and Iskan Barskanmay (1.5) - will line up for the open 100 metres.
Teenagers Sam Atkin (6) from Berwickshire, Selkirk's Iain Douglas (8), and TLJT duo Lee Goodfellow (10.5) and Paul Ferguson (6.5) will also be hoping to qualify from the six heats.
A total 46 youngsters have entered for the youths 100 metres with Borders Schools champion John Glen from Galashiels and Scottish age-group champion Kieran Kivlin running from the scratch mark.
Scottish Schools champion Demi Yorke (9) will be looking to progress from the heats as she makes her seasonal debut on the Borders circuit. The 14-year-old from Tweedbank also runs in the youths 200 metres.
Sunday's meeting has also attracted a quality field of middle distance runners with former national indoor champion Colin Welsh (scr) heading a 15-strong field in the 800 metres, which also includes veteran champion Gerry Starrs (77.5) from Heriot and Borders Schools champion Ben Smith (30).
Tweedbank Border Games start on Sunday at 2pm.
