Match report by Jonathan Gall

The BASE Football students have got the Scotland's College Football tournament off to a flying start with a decisive win over Adam Smith College. The Borders students won by an impressive 10 goals to 2 against the visitors.

In the early stages of the game it was obvious the Borders side were on top and it didn’t take long before they took the lead, a strike by Aiden Lauder from the edge of the box putting the home side in front.

Not long after the home side were two goals to the good after a cross into the box was well met by Ryan Sclater.

The home side continued to keep the ball well and forced an error from an Adam Smith defender who put the ball into his own goal which made it 3-0.

Shortly after a delightful cross whipped in by Dale Drummond was met by a leaping Danny Simpson who headed into the roof of the net to extend the lead to 4-0.

It was turning into a good afternoon for the Borderers, Adam Smith putting them under no pressure what so ever.

The Borders were then 5 goals to the good after a cross in by Aiden Lauder was passed into the bottom corner of his own net by a defender.

Allan Smith then scored for the borderers after a cross by Ryan Sclater was dropped by the Adam Smith goalkeeper making it an easy finish.

Six goals up and Borders College took their foot off the gas slightly which gave Adam Smith a couple of chances to score, thankfully Borders goalkeeper Jonathan Gall was alert to save from two strikes and was later sharp off his line to head away a through ball when it looked as if Adam Smith were through on goal. The score remained the same until half time.

The second half kicked off and the Borderers were quick to extend their lead further when Jordan Steele took a touch inside the box and finished well bending the ball round the goalkeeper.

Following that Adam Smith conceded again from yet another own goal. It was now 8-0 to the Borders side.

The Borders weren’t finished yet when Ryan Sclater popped up with a left football volley from inside the box to make it nine.

Adam Smith managed to get a couple of goals back in the later stages of the game one was a penalty well finished by the striker giving keeper Ryan Goodfellow no chance and the other was a well finished strike into the bottom corner.

Borders College then managed to make it ten when a well worked goal was finished off by Allan Smith.

Great start for the Borderers putting then in good shape for their next game.

This ensures Manager Stephen McLeish keeps his job for another week.
