GALA'S new collection of silverware went on public view for the first time on Friday at the regular meeting of the club's monthly lunch.

Former president Gordon Richardson welcomed club members and guests from Hawick, Selkirk, Melrose and Edinburgh.

The trophies won at Murrayfield and Philiphaugh were acclaimed and congratulations to the players and coaching staff were enthusiastically given.

The speaker was Professor David Purdie, the distinguished academician from Edinburgh who spoke of his strong Borders connection. His entertaining address ranged over Borders sport, history and culture.

This was the 93rd in the Gala club's series of Friday lunches and thanks were extended to the organiser, former president Jim Gilchrist.
