TEAM Borders, the region's junior athletics team now has its very own kit thanks to Borders Sport & Leisure.

Formed by bringing together top young athletes from clubs across the Scottish Borders by Scottish Borders Athletics Development Group, Team Borders enjoyed great success in the East of Scotland Cross country league earlier this year.

As a result they have been entered into the JSB Plumbing Forth Valley league featuring a range of track and field events for which a unified team kit is a requirement.

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Borders Sport & Leisure, the social enterprise, not-for-profit company that runs many of the sports and leisure facilities and programmes in the region said: "We were delighted to be able to assist Team Borders by providing them with their kit. Borders Sport & Leisure aims not only to support athletes with training and development but also with building team spirit.

"We hope this new kit will help them to feel part of something bigger than their individual clubs and we are really proud of the job they are doing in representing our region as a whole."

Team Borders will compete in their new kits at the JSB Plumbing Forth Valley League second meet on May 19th.

Jamie McDonald, East Regional Development Manager for Scottish Athletics said: "Team Borders is a fantastic initiative for athletics in the Borders. Building on the success of cross-country I'm delighted to see the development of track and field taking place throughout the Borders. This demonstrates how effective partnership working can be for the development of athletics."
