BORDERS biker Grant Ferguson has been named in the Scottish team for this summer’s Commonwealth Games - both on and off the road.

The 20-year-old from Peebles is one of 30 cyclists who were named yesterday to compete at Glasgow.

Ferguson, who won a bronze medal in the South African leg of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup recently, will compete in both the mountain bike cross country as well as the road race.

The 2013 British National cross-country champion will make a return to Cathkin Braes on July 29 to race over the 5.5km course.

And just a few days later on August 3 Ferguson will join the likes of David Millar, who won bronze in Delhi, in the Scotland road race team.

Team Scotland Chef de Mission, Jon Doig said: “Scotland has always had a strong tradition in cycling and its popularity has gone from strength to strength on the back of the amazing achievements of Sir Chris Hoy and Craig Maclean, the accessibility of the magnificent velodrome in Glasgow and the determination of Scottish Cycling to maximise these fantastic opportunities.

“This 30-strong team is proof of the progress that has been made over the last four years and we look forward to some exciting action on the track, on the road and over the cross-country course at Cathkin Braes.”
