Rogerson boxed Colin Cairney from the 1314 club over 3 x 1 minute rounds and despite a plucky two-fisted performance he lost a unanimous decision to the home club fighter.

Rogerson rarely took a backward step and he certainly gave Cairney lots to think about.

Rogerson, who travels from Galashiels three times weekly to train at the Hawick club, struggled to land clean scoring shots in the first round but settled well in the second which was probably his best round.

It was close going into the third but Cairney produced the better quality work to win on all three judge’s cards.

Speaking to the Border Telegraph this week, Hawick coach Gareth Walker said: “Lex boxed very well. He’s a gutsy young lad and he’ll come on from this bout. We’ll get into the gym this week and work on a few things but it’s all good. He’ll do well.” Hawick light welterweight Jack Purvis won his second unanimous decision in as many weeks when he took on the older and more experienced 18-year-old Glen Brown.

Hard Punching Brown, boxing for the 1314 club, started fast and scored with some heavy shots in the first minute but towards the end of the first Purvis was in control boxing well behind a crisp left jab.

The 16-year-old Hawick fighter won the second with some stylish boxing and scored with some impressive combinations to the head and body.

Brown tired badly at the start of the third of the two minute rounds and half way through Purvis looked like he might score a stoppage win.

The judges all scored the bout for Jack Purvis and this takes his record to 3-0. His next outing is the preliminary rounds of the Scottish Championships at Motherwell in a fortnight’s time.

Commenting on Purvis’s performance Walker said: “This was a step up in class for Jack and there was an element of risk involved. He handled it well and despite some serious pressure in the first round and boxed brilliantly to on all the cards.” The Hawick club has three entries in this month’s Scottish Championships at Motherwell. Jack Purvis contests the 64kg division, Macauly Walker (13) challenges for the 48kg title and Conor Sutherland (12) fights in the 44kg class. A full preview will appear in next week’s paper.
