The Galavanters, which is one of Jog Scotland’s newest groups, counted around 24 members at the pre-Christmas meeting.

But, after featuring on the back page of our New Year edition, more than 70 people turned up.

Previously the group just met on a Wednesday but now organisers Arlene Botha and Judith Little have launched a new session on a Tuesday for complete beginners. And it is attracting people of all ages.

Arlene said: “The feedback has been absolutely amazing and my phone never seems to stop ringing, “The Tuesday night group has started from scratch and is following the Jog Scotland 10-week programme. Last week 39 people joined myself and Judith to run down Scott Street from the swimming pool, along Abbotsford round and back.

“The session is designed with 30 seconds walking followed by 30 seconds jogging repeated in a cycle. So if someone has not run before it is a gentle introduction.

“A totally different group of 30 people joined us for the regular Wednesday night session. I can’t thank the Border Telegraph enough for the publicity it has given the group.” The Galavanters meet outside the swimming pool at 6.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesdays and prospective new members are advised to call Arlene first on 07909093304.
