The opening event on the seven race card saw last year’s winner of the members race Silk And Roses attempt to make all in the hands of Kelly Bryson but the Sylvia Scott trained Kalastar with last season’s champion jockey Tom Hamilton aboard proved too strong and held off Tambour Major by four lengths with Silk And Roses weakening into third.

Last year’s Yorkshire ladies champion Jacqui Coward had only one mount on the day but it turned out to be a winning one. Always prominent Jacqui brought Botany Cove with a well timed challenge to join Mister Splodge at the the last and showed the better turn of foot to win by one length with The Brig At Ayr back in third.

Ockey De Neulliac duly landed the odds in the ladies open but not until after a scare for those that bet the odds on.

Headed three out by Ninetieth Minute and Radio Nowhere the favourite looked in trouble but dug deep to come back and win by a length and a half from Ninetieth Minute with Tasheba back in third. This was a very game performance from the winner as it had bled from the nose and is now to get a Break.

Woodview Prince gave jockey Tom David due reward for his five and a half hour drive up from Cirencester by landing the mens open from Cave Hunter who was lame after the race and Monbeg. All northern area supporters hope that the very popular Cave Hunter isn’t too badly injured.

Eleven year old Crazy Diamond followed up its Alnwick maiden win in the Subaru sponsored restricted race in a close finish beating Darlington County and Oscar Stanley for the Wooler based trainer Jessica McKie.

Jockey Jack Teal on his first visit to Friars Haugh made a winning start on the Gillian Lee owned and trained Rush House. Leading from three out they held on by a length from Comedinewithme with Old Roan a never nearer five lengths away in third.

In an eventful final race for the Billy Stenhouse Memorial maiden race only two of the twelve who set out completed the course with Mister D beating Indigo Island giving Bonchester Bridge trainer Lesley Bewley a first training success.
