The Berwickshire club, who are only two years old, finished second in the highly competitive Under 13s Boys section at Falkirk’s Callendar Park.

Oscar Onley led Chirnside home in tenth with Josh Abbot in 21st, Rory Williams 25th and Jamie Kinghorn 38th to finish just 10 points behind winners Kilbarchan.

The Moorfoot team of Ethan Elder, Craig Angus, Finlay Collins and Patrick Harrison finished eighth. There was also a silver medal for Lauder’s Adam Craig as part of the Edinburgh AC team in the Under 20s race. The 19-year-old student finished 11th.

Highest senior Borderer on the day was Hawick policewoman Dianne Lauder who fought through the mud to finish seventh in the Senior Ladies race behind Madeleine Murray of Edinburgh.

Scout Adkin from Peebles was 15th overall with Kirstin Maxwell from Gala Harriers three places further back. Lauder and Maxwell, along with 50th placed Kate Jenkins and Fiona Dalgleish in 60th helped Gala Harriers ladies to a sixth-place finish behind winners, Central.

Gala Harriers Under 15 Boys team were also sixth. Callum Tharme crossed the line in 21st with Andrew Hogg 38th, James Logan 40th and Corri Campbell in 56th. The Moorfoot Under 13 Girls team were tenth overall. Beth Hobbs led the quartet home in 13th with Molly Falconer taking 45th, Elena MGorum finishing in 54th and Charlotte Morrison in 81st.

Gavin Bryson from Gala Harriers produced an encouraging run to finish sixth in the Uner 17s race.

In the Men’s Senior race Darrell Hastie from Kelso was first Borderer to cross the line in 36th.

Hastie also led the Gala Harriers team of Graeme Murdoch (110th), Fergus Johnston (158th), Wayne McIntosh (189th), David Moffat (246th) and Andrew Laurie (259th) to 17th team.
