Following competative pool and knock-out stages it was Selkirk who emerged victorious.

One pool took place at Earlston High School and the other at Tweedbank Astro. At Tweedbank, Galashiels Academy and Berwickshire High School dominated and made it through to the semi-finals at Earlston.

Earlston’s pool was extremely close ending in some very tight results.

In Selkirk’s first game they drew 0-0 against main rivals Kelso High School. Another close game saw them draw 1-1 with hosts Earlston High School and they finished the group stages with a 3-0 win against Hawick High School.

This was enough to put them through to the semi-finals against Berwickshire High School. In a close game, some fantastic passing from defence right through to attack from the Selkirk girls saw them put two goals past Berwickshire and book their place in the final.

In the other semi-final Galashiels Academy played Earlston High school. Earlston had most of the possession throughout the game and some great attacking opportunities, however were unlucky not to convert any of these. Gala had a fast break in the last two minutes and showed great determination in the circle managing to get the ball past the keeper.

So it was a Selkirk/Gala final.

There was some end to end stuff throughout the game with both teams putting each other under a lot of pressure.

Some excellent defensive work from Selkirk’s Eilidh McColm and Abbie Linton stopped Gala’s attack from getting through.

Towards the end Selkirk began to dominate and some great attacking play from Jenny Wright, Jo Arres and Iona Kellett took the ball up the pitch and Anneka Sanders managed to grab the winning goal.

Gala did try to come back and had a few more chances but goal keeper Eireann Quinn did well to keep these away. Captain Morven Cawthorn, who led by example through the whole day, was pleased with the win as for the past few years Selkirk have been beaten in the final of this tournament.

Coach Katie Kay was also thrilled with the result. She said: “I am absolutely delighted with the girls, they all put in 100 per cent effort through the tournament and were a credit to themselves and to Selkirk High School.” Selkirk: Morven Cawthorn, Eilidh McColm, Chloe Anderson, Anneka Sanders, Jo Arres, Caitlin Scott, Eireann Quinn, Iona Lunn, Jenny Wright, Abbie Linton, Grace Forster, Zoe Pflug, Iona Kellett
