GALASHIELS Academy's S2 ‘A’ and ‘B’ team took part in the Borders Hockey Tournament in Kelso on Saturday Both teams did fantastically well with the A’s winning and the B’s coming second in their respective tournaments.

To win their tournament the A team firstly managed to top their pool beating Jedburgh GS 3-0, Earlston HS 1-0 and drawing with Kelso HS 0-0. Their semi-final against Selkirk was hard fought and could have gone either way. Both teams had their opportunities to win in regulation time but were unable to convert possession into goals. Ultimately the game went to penalties with the pressure of the last penalty falling to Emily Ballantyne who calmly slotted it putting the team through to the final against Kelso HS who beat Peebles in their semi.

The final, as expected was incredibly tense with both teams putting pressure on the opposition in the first half. At the end of the half Galashiels were in the ascendancy and were awarded a series of penalty corners. In the last play of the half they took advantage with Danielle Walker scoring a fantastic angled strike.

The second half was similar to the first with both sides having opportunities but with some strong defence, epitomised by Ainsley Simpson, we kept Kelso out and secured an excellent win against very strong opposition.
