THE Braes of Derwent held their annual meeting at Downhills, Corbridge, on Sunday where there was a disappointing turn out of runners with only 24 runners contesting the six races.

Only two runners went to post for the intermediate race and Boy In Bangkok followed up its earlier course win after being left alone with four fences left to jump to coast home in his own time.

Cave Hunter made a welcome return to form to land the men’s open in a close finish from long time leader Ballyvesey with Clonea Power back in third.

Drill Sergeant gave Joanne Walton the first leg of a double when landing the ladies open from the fast finishing Rolecarr with Jack Clark’s Whisperdale running a fine race to finish third.

Joanne completed her double aboard Oscar Stanley in the following restricted race with Charlotte Dun on her aunt Kathie’s Farm Pixie another who finished with a rattle albeit too late finishing second with Kenny Lynn Probably George third.

Three runners went to post for the open maiden race and after Mister Kit the favourite had been pulled up Awman was left with only Blue Lodge to beat and he duly did.

The Sylvia Scott trained Whatsthestoryman finally got its head in front after finishing close up second on its last three runs.

Ridden by owner Emma Dunkley the combination proved too strong for Tulliroad the only other to finish from the four strong field.
