ATHLETES of all ages and abilities descended on Melrose at the weekend for the twelfth annual Borders Fun Run.

And a few supporters who couldn’t make it back to Scotland did their own versions in countries across the world.

From Spain, France and Ireland to the blazing heat of Australia fundraisers pulled on the trademark orange shirts for their own three miles.

But it was beneath the Eildons where more than 300 runners completed the challenge.

And organiser Annabel Crawford was delighted. She said: “The event just goes from strength to strength and it is so nice to see people coming back year after year.

“This is the first year we have had runners doing their own Borders Fun Run in different places across the world and they sent us in the photos.” Prior to Sunday’s three miles, which started and finished in the grounds of St Mary’s School, there was a warm-up workout with local chiropractor Lori Thomson.

While some of the more energetic raced for the prizes the majority of the entrants of the run, which is sponsored by JS Crawford, enjoyed a leisurely jog around the scenic route.

And there were even a few people who suffer from the condition which the event supports that made it to the finishing line.

Annabel added: “We have raised money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland since we started in 2004 and a few people who have MS completed the distance on mobility scooters.

“It is fantastic that so many people come and support the event each year and we are now looking forward to the 2016 Borders Fun Run.” Amongst the guests at St Mary’s were Radio Borders presenter Gregor Runciman along with the station’s mascot, Bobby the Beaver.

And this year’s Melrosian, Donald Crawford, was on hand at the finishing line to present the medals.

Sunday’s Borders Fun Run raised just over £6,000 for the MS Society.
