THE sun may have disappeared by the time Saturday’s Common Riding Grand Show and Gymkhana began but there was still plenty to warm the weariest of equestrian fans.

Dozens of riders of all ages took to the Philiphaugh showground for competition. And the organisers were thrilled with the numbers of competitors, spectators and sponsors.

As with all competitions there has to be winners and losers.

Elizabeth Fletcher aboard Overlaw won the RoR Challenge and also qualified for the Royal Windsor Show.

The RoR Tattersals Shwing Class, which is a qualifier for the Royal Highland Show, was won by Sharon Brown on Sessay Miller.

In the open Showjumping classes Christina Chesser on Henry won the Jim Oliver Cup.

And Emma Stenhouse on Connect Four landed the Watson Cup.

Milly Coltherd on Latheren Aristocrat was triumphant in the 13-to-15 years category, while Katie Edgar and Glenford Little Jack won the 11-to-12 years group, and Jardine Shannon aboard Toffy won the nine-to-10s.

Daisy Scott Watson won the Under eights with the LR prize going to Gabrielle Job on Molly’s Delight.

Milly Coltherd followed up with victory in the Hand Pony 13-to-15s class.

Molly Morris on Pocket Rocket won the 11-to-12s category, Shannon Jardine lifted the nine-to-10s category, and Caspar Denne was yet again triumphant in the Under 8s.

Eilidh Biggs on Scooby won the LR section.

In the Six Bar it was Christina Chesser on Henry who won the Over 16s category, Emma Stenhouse and Rubix Ruby triumphed in the 13-to-15 category, Sophie Smith and Treflan Nevo won the 11-to-12s age group, Emma Scott Watson on Buttons landed the nine-to-tens, and Daisy Scott Watson with Ziggy winning the Under eights.

Joel Campbell and Ratty were victorious in LR category.

The Kids Fancy Dress was won by Cora Lightfoot with Fiesta.

Emma Stenhouse and Rubix Ruby won the Gala Souters Cup in the Games.

Sarah McGee and Bowes Storm Damage lifted the Harvey Lockie Cup, while Emma Scott Watson and Minty triumphed in the nine-to-10 group for the McGowan Cup.

Daisy Scott Watson on Minty won the JA Waters Shield and the LR Games Trophy went to Christopher Lawson on Lacey.

The hotly contested Equition classes were won by Joel Campbell and Ratty in the LR group, Kirsty Lothian and Cola in the Under eights, Florence Abrams and Nutmeg in the nine-to-10s, Jesika Rennie and Hurstead Larch in the 11-to-12s, and Ellie Meldrum aboard Pocket Rocket in the 13-to-15s.

Tiegan Gibb on Flash won the Firth Family Shield in the Working Hunters LR age-group.

Caspar Denne and Noble Warrior won the Under eights WH Small Trophy and Emma Scott Watson with Buton lifted the nine-to-10s Inglis Cup.

Amy Ralston on Blue was triumphant in the 11-to-12s to win the DC Dalgliesh Trophy.

And Abbie Forster on Tonto won the Tartan Snow Shield in the 13-to-15s section.

Alex Mundell won the over 16s competition for the Royal British Legion Trophy.
