THE fund set up to support injured rugby player Connor Hughes from Kelso, left paralysed after sustaining a spinal cord injury last year playing for Stirling University, received a big boost at the weekend after two teams completed the 12-mile 'Tough Mudder Scotland’ obstacle course at Drumlanrig Castle.

One of the teams was led by Stephanie Hughes, Connor’s sister, and the other - Team MudMax - comprised employees of Aberdeen company Stena Drilling. Between them, the two groups managed to raise almost £3,000 in sponsorship for the Connor’s Journey Fund and the Hearts and Balls Charitable Trust (set up to assist catastrophically injured rugby players and their families).

“Everything went really well, and we all enjoyed the experience,” said Stephanie. “Our team ran it in just under three hours, and managed to complete the course without any injuries. It was tough and muddy for sure!” Anyone wishing to sponsor Stephanie’s team can still do so by logging on to the Connor’s Journey official web site at http://connorsjourney.com and click on the fund-raising link.
