BORDERER Jo Pettitt has been included in the Scotland squad for the forthcoming Netball World Cup in Australia.

The 20-year-old Strathclyde University student, who was the youngest member of the national team at last year’s Commonwealth Games, recovered from injury in time to make the 12-strong Scottish Thistles squad.

Jo played was one the stars of Peebles Netball before her studies took her to Glasgow.

And her former coach, Linda Nicholson, is delighted about this week’s selection announcement. She said: “Jo played for Peebles Netball for seven years. “She was injured earlier this year, and has worked hard to recover her fitness, with her reward being her place in the World Cup squad.

“Everyone at Peebles Netball is delighted that Jo has been named in the 12 player squad as goal shooter/goal attack.” The Scottish Thistles face a tough qualifying section at the finals in August.

The 11th-ranked Scots face England, who are third in the world rankings, fourth-ranked Jamaica, and also Samoa, who are just two places below the Thistles.

The Scotland squad heads out to a pre-competition training camp hosted by Netball Tasmania on July 26, prior to the World Cup which runs from August 7 to 16.
