THE draw was made on Saturday for the 125th Gala Sevens.

And club President Graham Low and tournament sponsor Kate Niven, from Five Star Taxis, have pulled a few crackers out of the bag.

Sticking with the successful format of previous seasons, the Sunday, April 3 tournament will be played in a pool format.

Hosts and holders Gala will have to navigate past both Peebles and Edinburgh Accies to reach the knock-out stages.

In the all-Borders Pool 2 Jedforest, Selkirk and Hawick will go head-to-head.

Pro team Edinburgh will face Melrose in what should be a thriller with Watsonians looking to cause a shock from Pool 3.

Gregor Townsend's Glasgow Warriors will hope to be strong enough to see off Boroughmuir and Kelso in the final pool matches.

President Low said: "We are continuing with the increasingly successful four pools.

"This will allow all of the teams to have at least three games.

"We are delighted with the support of Scottish Rugby to have our two professional teams amongst the guests."

Hospitality packages for the Sunday are already selling fast.

And a pre-Sevens mixed-company dinner on Friday, April 1, which features Ritchie Gray and Chris Paterson amongst the guests, is also proving popular.

The 125th Gala Sevens will also feature supporting entertainment such as a tug-of-war competition and children's activities.

There will also be an all-day beer tent position pitch side.

The first tie on Sunday, April 3 kicks off at 2pm.
