GALA are looking to replicate their success of 1999, as they get set for BT Cup action against Glasgow Hutchesons' Aloysians on Saturday.

The Maroons travel to Braidholm with two wins from their last five Premiership matches and full-back Graham Speirs is hoping the change of competition will help them to improve their record.

He told the Border Telegraph: "The GHA game has come off the back of some tough matches, but this gives us the chance to make a fresh start in the cup.

"The team had a good run in 2012, so we hope we can do it again. We know it will be tough, there is a lot to work on but it's good to have that change of focus.

"We have big week of training in store so we need to sharpen up and tighten up defensively."

GHA currently sit seventh in the BT National League Division 1 and come into the game after a tight 43-40 victory over Aberdeen Grammar.

They trounced Orkney 47-17 in the first round of the cup in August.

Speirs added: "We will certainly not be taking any team lightly. It is knock-out rugby and they will be confident at home against a Premiership side. You can't underestimate anyone. Any team can win.

"The league has been going 11 weeks now, so we want to build because we've got some big games coming up in December with Ayr and Melrose.

"It should also give Gary Robertson a chance to return after he took a knock on his head and Harry Borthwick, who was injured against Glasgow Hawks. So it would be good to see them back."

The game will kick-off at 1.30pm.

Elsewhere, Selkirk travel to Watsonians, who sit seventh in the Premiership, after they beat Howe of Fife 67-20 in the first round. That will start at 2pm.

Peebles are at home to Edinburgh Accies at 1.30pm after they narrowly defeated Preston Lodge 41-40 to progress, while the side from the capital beat Hamilton 68-15.

Third and fourth from Division 1 will also go head-to-head as Jed-Forest host Falkirk at 3pm. Jed demolished Dalziel 78-0 in the first round while Falkirk defeated Kelso 64-33.

And finally Hawick will host Marr at 2.30pm. The Troon side beat Biggar 50-10 in the first round.
