HAWICK winger Ross Combe has been hit with an eight week ban after biting a former team-mate during his debut.

The 24-year-old was the Premiership's top try scorer last season with Gala.

But, following Gala's relegation to BT National League One, he departed for Mansfield Park during the summer.

During his first competitive game, against Gala in the Booker Border League last month, he was cited for biting Gala centre Alan Emond.

During a disciplinary hearing at Murrayfield this week, the citation was upheld.

A Scottish Rugby spokesman told us: "The disciplinary hearing was held here at BT Murrayfield on Wednesday night.

"The citing was upheld and Ross Combe was suspended for eight weeks."

Combe, who grew up in the United Arab Emirates and has represented the Middle East country at rugby, played for Jed-Forest before moving to Gala.
