Gala YM 25

Earlston 19

Joe Dickson at Netherdale

AFTER last week's big loss to Earlston Gala YM gained revenge at Netherdale on Saturday in the 1st round of the Border Shield.

It was all YM in the opening minutes but they lost Rory Hedderly to the sin bin after six minutes and Earlston came more into the game.

The visitors scored the opening try shortly after.

The conversion gave them a seven point lead.

This stirred YM into action with Blair Reavely scoring an unconverted try to narrow the score.

Earlston lost a player to the bin and YM stepped up a gear.

A good handling move sent Graham Dun racing in for his sixth try of the season. Gavin Hamilton added the extras.

Once again poor tackling let in Earlston in for a second converted try and a 14-12 interval lead.

YM quickly took command early in the second half and a well worked move sent in Andrew Gould for a try, converted by Gavin Hamilton.

YM increased their lead with a penalty goal from Hamilton.

A second penalty goal from Hamilton put Earlston two scores behind.

As time ran out, Earlston scored a third try from an interception but they could not convert.

Earlston pressed hard in the closing minutes but the YM defence held firm to claim the victory.

Gus Miller got this week’s man of the match award.

This week YM are at home in an East Division 2 game against Edinburgh Northern.
