GALA rugby has lost one of its greatest players and servants with the sudden death of Dunc Paterson this week.
The 66-year-old died peacefully at his home at Dean Street in Galashiels.
Tributes have already been paid to the former chairman of the Scottish Rugby Union who was capped 10 times for his country.
Colin Playfair, president of Gala Rugby Club, told the Border Telegraph: "Dunc was one of the best players to ever come out of Gala Rugby Club. He was a Gala man through and through and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family at this time."
The scrum half first played for the Maroons in the 1960-61 season, collecting his first cap eight years later.
And he was honoured with a life membership at Netherdale earlier this year.
The Border Telegraph's rugby writer Atholl Innes said: "Dunc was a great servant to Gala and Scotland rugby over the years."
Mr Paterson became a highly respected administrator, team selector and manager following his retirement from playing in May, 1972.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille, and three sons and daughter.
