MELROSE took their the only eight fit players west and still managed to sweep away the opposition as they lifted the Glasgow trophy with some exhibition style rugby.
The young side had a mostly untroubled afternoon playing a brand of expansive running rugby unmatched by most of the other competing teams who seemed mostly oblivious to the space which sevens affords.
Incisive running from Nicola Halfpenny and Gillian Inglis ensured victories against Carlisle 40-0, Glasgow Uni. 52-0 and brought up a decider against an experienced Barbarian select who provided a stiffer contest before succumbing 19-10.
Broughton provided the final opposition after qualifying from a very poor group and despite some initial resistance were completely dismantled as Melrose romped to a 55-10 victory. Kirsty Cook was player of day for Melrose.
