A STALWART of Border rugby for some 30 years has been awarded the RBS Volunteer of the Month award for October.

Moira Black of Hawick Linden RFC, the 'Heid cook and bottlewasher' has faithfully served the club while her husband (Robert), son (Craig) and son-in-law (Bruce Law) have all run out for the team on a Saturday afternoon.

When in attendance at Volunteer Park you are most likely to find Moira cooking up the teas for the players and pre-match lunches, and if she's not whipping up a storm in the kitchen she will be organising and fund-raising for the many different charity events run in the clubhouse.

She said: "I'm absolutely shocked to receive this award, but very proud. It will make the club stand out a wee bit in the area.

"I really love helping out at Volunteer Park and keeping active, so I think I will display the award in the trophy cabinet so we can all enjoy it."

Scottish Rugby's head of community rugby, Colin Thomson, said: "It's people like Moira who make so many of our clubs across Scotland and their background work compliments the teams that play on a Saturday.

"Scottish Rugby congratulates Moira on this achievement and thanks her for her hard work in October and over the past 30 years at Volunteer Park."

Moira will receive a table at the annual Scottish Rugby Club Awards Dinner at Murrayfield where she will be in with a chance of winning the RBS Club Volunteer of the Season award. The dinner will take place on Friday 25 May 2012, with details on attending becoming available soon.
