RUGBY referees are seeking to bolster their ranks in the Borders area.

A training course in the Law of Game is being offered by referee Iain Heard and will allow the recipient to preside over Under 16 games at their local school or club.

If the person decides they would like to referee on a more regular basis they would then be encouraged to join the Referee Society where they'd be allocated games in the Borders.

A group of experienced referee coaches are will be on hand for support any new referees to ensure they're tutored to improve.

The course will also be a good way of gaining further insight into the Laws of the game and how they are applied by referees.

Organiser Iain Heard said: "Having run many courses over the last 5 years the number of people attending who have said they would have been better players if they had learned the laws a bit better is considerable.

"It would be good to see some current players and coaches attending."

The course will be at Kelso RFC at 10am-4pm, for registration and further details contact Iain on 07764178926 or iain.heard@sru.org.uk.
