The RBS Premiership champions and runners-up, who are on course to meet in the final of the Border League, have been paired in the same half of the draw at the 124th Melrose Sevens, which kicks-off on April 12.

But first Gala will have to overcome the winners of Hawick v Howe of Fife in the preliminary round, while Melrose await the winners of Aberdeen v Selkirk.

Meanwhile, last year’s runners-up, French side Clermont Auvergne, will play the winner of Glasgow Hawks and Peebles.

The draw was made by Gillian Bunker, wife of Darren Bunker, the club’s main sponsor Qube GB, and sister of head coach John Dalziel, in the clubrooms at the Greenyards on Saturday. She was joined by Sevens convenor Ian Cooper and flanked by the Elite Pro Dance girls.

The full draw was made as follows - First Round: Ayr v Stirling or Jed-Forest; Glasgow Warriors v Currie or Stew Mel; SMT Trinbago v Dundee or Boroughmuir; USA Tigers v Heriot’s or Langholm; Gala v Hawick or Howe of Fife; Melrose v Aberdeen or Selkirk; Watsonians v Kelso or Edinburgh Accies; and Clermont v Glasgow Hawks or Peebles.
