Winger Carlin Isles made his debut for Glasgow Warriors at the Melrose Sevens on Saturday.

Formerly a sprinter, his 100m best of 10.13 seconds would have been enough for him to qualify for the semi-finals at the London Olympics two years ago.

He has scored 27 tries in 14 sevens tournaments for the US national team.

After appearing for Ayr in Hawick last month, Isles returned to the Borders to represent the Warriors for the first time.

Isles, who revealed he was “blessed” to play at the home of rugby sevens in front of a crowd of more than 10,000 spectators, told the Border Telegraph: “Melrose Sevens was everything I thought it would be and more - great crowd, great competition and it was a blessed opportunity to be here.

“I got to show my speed and break loose a couple of times so I was happy about that.

“I didn’t hear much about the tournament until I got here and they told me how big it was, and there was a lot of pressure on us, and I finally see what it is about today.”
