The Edinburgh Accies player, who recently captain the Scottish Thistles seven, is joined by new cap Richard Mill, from Melrose, for the Lyon competition.

Alex Cox from Boroughmuir, who also played for the Thistles, will also make his Scotland debut.

And fellow Thistle, Gregor Young from Jed, has also been called up.

Godsmark won his first international cap in the same tournament last year, when he scored two tries.

Head coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: "Nyle, Alex, Richard and Gregor have all done well with the Scottish Thistles in the last few weeks and Richard and Alex now have an opportunity at a higher level.

"We want to give the players who do well a progression and it is a first chance for Alex and Richard to see how they cope pulling on the Scotland 7s jersey." The remainder of the squad is made up of full-time Scotland 7s professionals, Struan Dewar, Colin Shaw, Mark Robertson, Colin Gregor, Scott Wight, James Johnstone, James Fleming and Andrew Turnbull.

Gemmell added: "A number of our full time players are needing game time following injuries. "This is a chance for these players to prove the level they are capable of playing at.

"This for me is just like any other international competition, it will act as our preparations for next season's HSBC Sevens World Series and the Commonwealth Games.

"The players have trained hard the last few weeks and put the disappointment of the Glasgow 2014, Team Scotland selection behind them.” Scotland 7s are in Group A on Saturday with England, Wales and Belgium. They play Wales at 10.06am, England at 12 noon and Belgium at 3pm (all UK time).

Gemmell concluded: "This is a tough pool. We are familiar with England and Wales and they will provide us with some stiff competition.

"Belgium have been promoted from the Division A so they will be looking to prove that they can compete at this level of international competition.”
