SCOTLAND Sevens star Scott Wight could be set to make a sensational return to hometown club Melrose this season.

The former Scottish championship winning captain has been paired with the Greenyards side in the latest pro-player draft.

He is joined by former Kelso star Ross Ford and Damien Hoyland, who helped the club with the Premiership last season, along with Wicus Blaauw, Sean Kennedy, James Johnstone, Dougie Fife, Williem Nel and Andries Strauss.

Gala, meanwhile, could call on the services of Brett Thompson, James Hilterbrand, Fraser McKenzie, Gregor Young, Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, Lewis Young, Grayson Hart, Anton Bresler and David Denton.

And Hawick have Joaquin Dominguez, Ollie Atkins, Tomas Leonardi, Allan Dell, Tom Heathcote, Michael Tait, John Andress, Jack Cuthbert, Mike Coman and Grant Gilchrist.

Elsewhere, former Melrose star Mark Robertson has been paired with Edinburgh Accies; Lee Jones, from Selkirk, lines up with Stirling County; and Hawick’s British Lion Stuart Hogg has been paired with Currie.

Some 101 professional players from Edinburgh Rugby, Glasgow Warriors and Scotland 7s have been drafted to clubs in the BT Premiership for the new league campaign.

Stephen Gemmell, Scottish Rugby’s Acting Head of Academy, said: “The pro-player draft is an important part of our joint determination to close the gap between the top end of the club game and professional rugby.

“For the players it means that when they are not involved in a match day squad for their pro-club or Scotland 7s, then they can get game time and contribute to the well-being of their allocated club.”
