HAWICK RFC has announced it will host the first U15s youth sevens competition at Mansfield Park later this month.

It follows a successful lottery fund application, in partnership with the Bill McLaren Foundation.

The Bill McLaren School Sevens will kick-of on Friday, September 19, at 10.30am, with the final just after 3pm.

And it is hoped it could become an annual event.

Eight boys and four girls teams from the secondary schools across the Borders will take part in the competition.

Each team will adopt a Commonwealth country rugby team in celebration of the successful Commonwealth Rugby Sevens event held in Glasgow earlier this summer.

There will also be a clinic for youth coaches hosted by top Scottish sevens coaches and players at Mansfield Haugh at 9.30am prior to the event. There will be free entry to all throughout the day and food will be available in the clubhouse.

This is a community event to celebrate the Commonwealth Games and youth sport, and to encourage young people to play rugby.
