EARLSTON High School rugby players enjoyed a double success when they won both matches in the opening campaign of the Scottish Brewin and Dolphin Plate Competition.

At U18 level, the home XV scored a resounding eight tries to two victory to oust Knox Academy by 57-12. Star of the show was Robbie Chalmers who dictated the pace of the game and ensured that a fast tempo game plan was executed.

The slick service of Earlston scrum half Calum McDonald allowed regular scores for the Borderers with Jack Barnes, Thomas Billam, Alex Johnson and Paul Henney to the fore in a rousing performance. Archie Kidd was the try scoring hero with a tremendous three try hat-trick.

Not to be out done, the U16 XV got their Scottish campaign off to an excellent start with an opening round victory v Musselburgh GS by another eight try margin. The 57-5 win was an all round team performance, with Hugh Robinson, Gary McWilliam, Jack Wilks and Chris Parker shining in the open attacking rugby and the strength of Louis Wilson helping to secure a strong forward platform.

The U18 XV progress to play North Berwick HS and the U16 travel to old friends Galashiels Academy in the next rounds to be played later in the month.
