In 2014 the club once again participated in the global ‘Movember’ campaign to promote men’s health issues and help fund research into prostate cancer.
Throughout the month of November participants grew a variety of moustaches and beards, asking friends and family for sponsorship. Their efforts raised a total of £2,246, which has been donated to the Prostate Cancer UK charity.
At Philiphaugh last Tuesday night, the cheque was presented by Selkirk president Mick Craig to Alan Dickinson, one of Prostate Cancer UK’s volunteers.
Mr Dickinson, who hails from Peebles, thanked Selkirk Rugby Club for its tremendous support, saying the funds raised would make a significant contribution in the fight against prostate cancer through research, support and raising awareness of the condition.
Selkirk vice-president Elliot Henderson, who was unable to be present at Tuesday’s presentation, raised just over £1,000 of the club’s final total – an incredible achievement.
