Edinburgh Rugby will face the might of Romania in the Borders next month.

The capital side confirmed its pre-season fixture schedule this week, which will see them play international opposition and a fellow Guinness PRO12 outfit.

Edinburgh will play Romania at The Greenyards, home of Melrose, in the first of their two warm-up games on Friday, August 21, following on from last year's highly attended pre-season match at the ground.

Romania, who currently sit 17th in the world rankings, travel to the Borders ahead of their Rugby World Cup campaign where they will face France, Ireland, Italy and Canada in Pool D.

The Black and Reds will then face Ulster at Goldenacre, the home of BT Premiership winners Heriot's, the following Friday (August 28).

Jonny Petrie, Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, said: "We're delighted to welcome two highly-rated teams for an exciting pre-season schedule for Edinburgh Rugby.

"We hope fans are looking forward to donning the black and red after the summer break, and coming to the games to enjoy the special atmosphere the club grounds will offer.

"We're also happy to announce our ticketing offers for the pre-season games, and hope this will encourage large crowds to come and watch top-tier professional and international rugby ahead of what promises to be an exciting season for the club.” Edinburgh Rugby season-ticket holders will be able to enjoy the pre-season clash against Ulster as part of their package, with ticket prices for both games starting at £12 for adults and £5 for under-18s.

Ulster visit the capital after finishing fourth in last season's Guinness PRO12, and will face Edinburgh Rugby in round four of the league.

Alan Solomons, Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach, said: "Romania are a physical side, but we are looking forward to the challenge they will bring. It is one of their identified World Cup warm-up fixtures so it will be competitive and a good opportunity for us too in our preparations.

"Ulster, on the other hand, are very familiar to us and we are fully aware of the quality and depth they possess in their ranks.

"These matches will provide an apt test for the squad ahead of what will be an extremely tough league campaign.”
