Máté Mészáros arrived in Scotland last Thursday to join the Lowland League club.
The 19-year-old Hungarian was one of MUM Paks' up-and-coming stars - but he wanted a taste of football in the UK.
And he hopes that a good run for the Souters will earn him the attentions of some of the country's bigger clubs.
Mészáros told the Border Telegraph: "It is a new country for me and a new team but the football will be the same.
"I don't see all that much difference from how we play in Hungary." The towering forward has already enjoyed a trial spell with Charlton Athletic.
But he jumped at the chance of a contract with the Lowland League side until the end of the season.
Mészáros added: "When Stevie (Forrest) told me about Selkirk I started doing research on the internet. They are an ambitious club and I want to help the team.
"I believe this is a good opportunity for me and I hope that playing for Selkirk will help me get to the next level." Selkirk have already sorted the multilingual teenager out with a hotel job in Edinburgh.
Manager Forrest said: "Máté will do well for us and I hope we do well for him. I was tempted to play him against Preston but he will get to know the team over the next week and will feature against Dalbeattie."
