IT is a Gala Week in every sense of the word.

The Braw Lads' Gathering celebrates the history of Galashiels and culminates with a week long series of events beginning at the start of the last week in June.

And the whole town is invited to join in the festivities.

This week, as the countdown to the biggest event of the year in the Galashiels social calendar continues, the Border Telegraph is launching the 2012 Braw Lads' Gathering Best Dressed Window Competition to encourage shops and businesses to join in the celebrations.

We are inviting staff in stores and offices throughout the town, to roll out the bunting and showcase your shopfronts by dressing them in the traditional festival colours of black and white, or maybe even a splash of maroon.

The winning window will win the Border Telegraph shield and a special prize and there are goodies for the runner-up as well.

Last year the trophy was won by local pharmacy M Farren Limited in the town's Bank Street, while charity Links Together, which has a shop in Lawyers Brae, was named runners-up. However, this year, we have added a new twist to the competition.

The Border Telegraph will photograph every store - complete with staff - and readers will be asked to vote for their favourite on our Facebook page. And whoever gets the most 'Likes' wins!

The Braw Lad Ryan Mania and Braw Lass Nicola Mackay will present the prizes during the Gala Week.

To enter, pick up a form in this week's Border Telegraph.
