ARTWORK designed by a schoolboy from the Borders has gone on display at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh.

Galashiels Academy pupil James October watched the unveiling after being named a winner of the Tesco Bank Art Competition for Schools.

The National Galleries of Scotland received over 7,100 submissions from schools in every local authority in Scotland. In total there were 53 winning entries across all 32 local authorities in Scotland.

Winning artworks are on display to the public in the Scottish National Gallery before being exhibited in a nationwide tour.
