String Jam club warms up for Burns Night Bash

Comments (0) | Print | Email

ONE of our most popular nights of the whole year, the Burns Night Bash is a great opportunity for local musicians to come and play and have a good time.

It's the night when the String Jam Club's stage is being thrown open to musicians everywhere who want to perform & share their music.

Instead of booking a headline artist as we normally do, we welcome all musicians everywhere to take part in this magical music marathon.

Everyone will be a star for the night, performing two of three numbers (dependent on how many people turn up to play).

If previous years are anything to go by, then tonight will be a knockout, whether you are performing or just coming along for the experience!

As ever, Helen's delicious homemade haggis pies (including veggie ones) will help to keep the creative juices going, and there will be a piper to pipe them in as well as the usual festive raffle with lots of great prizes.

The Burns Night Bash is a fantastic showcase for the huge musical talent that is everywhere in the Borders, so whatever age you are, whatever style of music you play, whether you're into jazz, folk, blues or singer-songwriters or whatever, whether you perform original material or do covers, whoever you are - we want to hear you play!

You don't have to be a musician to be part of this event - many of our regular audience have said that this is one of their favourite gigs in their musical calendar, a great way to start the year so sit back and enjoy.

The Burns Night Bash is a tribute to all the local musicians who have helped to create the enduring success of the String Jam Club "the Borders haven of acoustic music" which is now into its second decade.

If you would like to play, please contact us soon for a spot as we anticipate great demand. Don't let the economic gloom get you down, come on down and have some fun and share the unique String Jam Club experience!

Please call 01750-720538 to book a spot or email: stringjamclub@vixenrecords.com

Admission £7 on the door (Musicians £3). Please note this is not a ticketed event. Ticket price includes haggis.

Please note that due to Health and Safety issues resulting from the inevitable crush of people queuing on the stairs, we have been requested to open the doors a bit earlier. From now on doors will open at 7.15pm rather than 7.45pm. However, the music will still commence at the usual time of 8.15pm or thereabouts.

As a result of this, we are hoping that people will filter in gradually over the early part of the evening, rather than usual the last-minute bottleneck (excuse the pun) of bodies in the narrow stairwell which is uncomfortable for everyone. The bar upstairs will of course be open for business from 7.15 and you will be able to come in & buy your drinks and get settled in and relax with plenty of time to spare before the evening's entertainment begins, the perfect recipe for a perfect evening!

Please note that on guest nights we cannot admit anyone whilst the sound-check is in progress, so these times are approximate.

String Jam Club meets on the last Saturday of every month at The Salmon Inn, Bank Street, Galashiels, Scottish Borders TD1 1EP

and is sponsored by Vixen Records, Sound Station Studio, Merlin Music and Scottish Borders Council. Doors open at 7.15 p.m.
